Cryotherapy for retinopathy of prematurity: timing of intervention.
نویسنده
چکیده
This is a retrospective study of the results of cryotherapy for retinopathy of prematurity in 30 eyes of 17 patients from November 1976 to March 1983. The report is in the language of the international classification of retinopathy of prematurity. Ten eyes were treated at stage 4 disease, seven eyes at severe or late stage 3 'plus' disease, and 13 eyes at moderate or mid-stage 3 'plus' disease. All eyes had the cryotherapy applied to the ridge and the extraretinal fibrovascular proliferation contiguous with the ridge, some with additional treatment of the avascular retina. The results show that this method of treatment must be applied before severe stage 3 'plus' disease is established in order to prevent visual disability and minimise retrolental fibroplasia. The treatment of the selected cases of progressive moderate stage 3 'plus' disease accomplished those objectives.

Cryotherapy for retinopathy of prematurity--a prospective study.
Cryotherapy has been shown to reduce the unfavourable outcome in retinopathy of prematurity with stage 3 threshold disease by 50%. In a prospective study cryotherapy had a favourable outcome in 13 of 24 eyes with stage 3 threshold disease. The visual outcome, refraction, and complications of cryotherapy are discussed.

Background: The aim of the study was to compare functional and structural outcomes of treatment for retinopathy of prematurity with diode laser photocoagulation and cryotherapy. Materials and methods: We examined 111 children aged 4 years, treated for retinopathy of prematurity by transpupillary diode laser photocoagulation or cryotherapy. Both functional (visual acuity, orthoptic status) and s...

OBJECTIVE The goal of this study was to determine whether there was a significant difference between the visual outcomes of eyes with threshold retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) treated with trans-scleral cryotherapy compared to those treated with laser photocoagulation. DESIGN Extended follow-up study of a prospective, randomized clinical trial. PARTICIPANTS Fifty-two patients with bilatera...

AIMS/BACKGROUND The clinical outcome of 66 consecutive infants with stage 3 retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is reported. METHODS Thirty four infants (64 eyes) were treated with cryotherapy and 32 infants (59 eyes) underwent laser photocoagulation. RESULTS Infants with anterior-mid zone II ROP had a high rate of disease regression whether treated by cryotherapy or laser photocoagulation. In...
متن کاملLonger-term visual outcome of eyes with retinopathy of prematurity treated with cryotherapy or diode laser.
AIMS Visual outcome of 66 eyes in 37 patients who had undergone treatment with either cryotherapy or diode laser for threshold retinopathy of prematurity was assessed. METHODS 17 patients, representing 30 eyes treated with cryotherapy, were examined at between 56 and 98 months corrected age (median 68 months). 20 patients representing 36 eyes treated with diode laser, were examined at between...
